STEVE JAMES

Steve came to London from South Wales at 18 to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter. He recorded an album of his own songs, which gained keen interest from several major record labels. He even secured airplay on radio stations around England and Wales before fate took a hand and damage to his spine rendered him unable to stand or walk unaided for many years - putting a stop to his career.

Now, thanks to an exceptional and (literally) life-saving therapy from Australia, called the Bowen Technique, Steve is back on his legs and so happy to be performing again.

He says: “I have been told that many of my songs, such as ‘The Future Is Bright’, ‘Watching The Leaves’ and ‘Hard Falls The Rain’, have a timeless quality which warrants their being heard today. I am now making available some of those songs to be listened to in full on this site for free. They can also be bought for immediate download.”

Steve describes his songs and style as ‘Heart and Soul’ and has been compared to such performers as Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix – the very singers who have inspired him over the years. He also credits David Bowie’s versatility and vocal range as being considerably responsible for his own style.

His songs can also be downloaded on another (totally independent) site where he is promoted as being akin to Lennon. This, says Steve, is because many of his songs aspire to make the world a less violent place; especially ‘Freedom’, ‘Make Love Not War’ and ‘Why?’. This last was written after watching the film ‘Gallipoli’. Prior to his incapacitation, Steve had been a very fast runner and was profoundly moved by the thought of the horror of sprinting headlong into machine gun fire, with only one inevitable outcome… “I hear the whistle, time is blown on my life… looking for bullets that search for me.” (Lyrics: ‘Why?’)
